Timber frame construction is the UK’s fastest-growing method of building, supported by key organisations such as TRADA and the BRE. Timber Frame is promoted by the Government as the ‘first choice’ construction method, praised for its efficiency, environmental credentials and structural integrity.
The Construction Industry Training Committee has been founded to cater for the unique role needed to represent and facilitate the Training and Development of the tens of thousands of employees of the 155 UK TFA members, across the globe.
A key driver for Dr Benfield’s activities as Chairman will be to promote Training & Development as an integral part of the building process, which ultimately reflects upon the quality of product and satisfaction of clients. Dr Benfield accepted the role of Chairman of the Committee at the pre-committee meeting earlier this week, where his welcoming speech illustrated his vision “By helping our people to grow and develop their talents – whatever shape or form these take – they will gain greater satisfaction from their work, produce finer buildings, generate more satisfied customers, become real wealth creators and leave a truly sustainable inheritance for future generations.
The committee will focus on educating and training construction industry professionals in the application of timber frame including Site Managers, Architects and sales staff. One of its key strategic aims will be to up-skill timber frame craftspeople and operatives, as well as introducing Modern Apprenticeships and vocational courses in timber frame.
Committee members include Laing Homes, JNC Timber Frame, James Carpentry, Oregon Timber and Bryan Woodley, the Chief Executive of the UK Timber Frame Association.
