Consequently, this job provides the opportunity for a suitably talented and motivated individual to carve out a national and international career as the Supervisor/Manager of a strong team of skilled factory-based Manufacturing Carpenters.
Our National reputation for producing high-quality Timber Frame structures is increasing workload as expected. As we deliver our ambitious expansion plans, one of the important issues will be to ensure that production levels are increased and manufacturing output is improved in terms of Quality, Consistency and Efficiency. Consequently increasing demand is leading to an expanding workforce and supervision requirements. Experience in setting and achieving targets will be an important element to this role.

Key Tasks include knowledge and supervision of people engaged in -
- Accurate reading and interpretation of drawings
- Use of pneumatic equipment
- Accurate timber measurement and 'squaring' of trusses
- Precise interpretation and application of truss angles
- Truss assembly, including selection of appropriate timber
- Selection, positioning and precision fixing of truss plates
- Palletising / loading of trusses
- Conforming to ISO 9001 and TMA/TRA quality control procedures
- Self and team monitoring of quality
- Representing the company in a professional manner at all times
- Health & Safety monitoring and the maintenance of safe working practices
- Setting improvement targets for your teams and ensuring these are implemented, monitored and fed back successfully
- Motivating, managing, improving and overseeing the development of a multi-cultural, multi-skilled and diverse team
You will be responsible for using and supervising the use of manual and semi automatic wood working machinery and pneumatic equipment, together with related Health & Safety, procedures. Selected people may also be trained as fork lift drivers, timber selection, stores management, saw milling, etc..
Candidate Profile
Essential
- Experience in supervising, delegating and monitoring performance of employees
- Ability to read drawings (some IT drawing experience would be beneficial)
- Ability to communicate (English is the language of the workplace)
- Used to giving and following precise instructions
- Clear awareness of the dangers present in the timber manufacturing workplace
- Familiarity with the use of timber as an engineered construction material/carpentry/related craft skills - a love of working with wood will be beneficial
- Ability to learn and retain in-depth knowledge
- The desire to make a difference and maintain a creative and highly motivated team
- Good commercial / business management sense
- Administration ability
Desirable
- Keen to improve personal development and to progress in the Company
- Willingness to undertake further training and supervise the training of others, including appropriate NVQ's and/or college based further education.
- A love of timber construction or wood as a material would be beneficial
