We currently have Freelance sales positions in various locations in the UK & overseas. However, our experience shows that most brands require salespeople who have a construction background with some appropriate timber frame knowledge if they are to "make the grade" in a freelance capacity.
We are looking for people able to represent us in a fully professional manner as technical specialists Most brands require total dedication, i.e. to be the exclusive sales activity, not alongside other products.
An important consideration for anyone undertaking sales for a company such as ours is that a "consultative" approach has to be taken. This is because most sales relate to bespoke, or custom-designed, projects -- not standard, repetitious designs – with a ‘handholding’ approach needed.
Most positions require an initial week or so to be spent in our offices getting to know the way in which we work and address enquiries. For the next month or so a day every week is needed with us, thereafter reducing to a day per month for updates, briefings and training.
We support the efforts of freelance salespeople by regular mailings to builders, developers, architects and others selected by them, feeding resultant and other enquiries to them as received.
Each salesperson "works their territory" selecting and visiting prospects on a regular basis to build up personal relationships and getting to know the development scene in their area. They submit weekly reports on activities and submit details of all contacts for our central records. While we give assistance with estimating in the initial stages, progressively each salesperson is expected to handle this function themselves, since this provides the best way of really understanding each client's requirements.
Although much of our work is housing related, we enjoy undertaking a mix of (often unusual) other projects, like schools, healthcare, leisure, hospitality, visitor centre, etc. From such a mix we expect each salesperson to be able to deliver a minimum of £1 million sales value in their first year, with the expectation that this will be doubled in the second year with annual increases thereafter. Although we are happy to undertake small "batch runs", we are not primarily a firm of "volume panel bashers".
Commission is paid on a sliding scale, with variation according to what is sold, e.g. type of client, type of project, type of service, etc, and volume, up to 4% of the gross sales value. This is paid when each project has been completed and paid for, although in exceptional circumstances we will consider making some advance against confirmed sales to assist a salesperson. Generally a freelance salesperson should be able to support themselves financially for between three and four months, although someone with an existing portfolio of pending sales could substantially reduce this.
Each freelance salesperson must provide a fully equipped office, transport, etc. and develop their own reference library within this commission
We are looking for people who have fully investigated our organisation, who will commit to join us on a permanent, long-term basis, and who are prepared (with family support) to put in the time and effort needed to develop their knowledge and skills to a highly professional level.
If you would like to discuss this in greater detail, please telephone Laura Baghurst on 01291 437 050 to submit further information on your background and arrange an appointment to visit us.
