Based in West Yorkshire, Ecology Building Society specialises in mortgages for “low impact� self build and for renovation of derelict property. Every mortgage project financed by the Society has some form of environmental payback.

The Ecology Self Build Mortgage

The average self-build project costs around £140,000, so it is no surprise that over two-thirds of self-builders need self build timber frame mortgage finance to fund the construction.

Lenders requirements differ, but if you decide to arrange a self build mortgage with the Ecology, we will ask you to provide a copy of your plans, detailed costings and at least outline planning permission. The Society will consider lending up to 90% of the “finished� valuation, releasing 90% of the land value up front and further funds as the build progresses and the value increases. We will lend up to three times the joint income of all applicants.

The Ecology offers a special fee saving package for Benfield ATT customers who apply directly to the Society (quoting BF1). There is no administration fee to pay, your valuation fee will be refunded on completion and no charge will be made for up to three stage release valuations...you could qualify for hundreds of pounds worth of savings.
